Part-time Athletic Coaches

Initial

Eligibility for a part-time certificate covering Athletic Coaching must be established for all assistant coaches who are not employed as full-time teachers by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS).

Athletic coaching certificates are issued by the State of Florida to individuals who do not hold a valid Florida Certificate, but who are paid to coach in the public schools. For individuals who hold a valid Florida Educator's Certificate, the additional coaching certificate is not required. Individuals who hold a valid Professional Educator's Certificate and who wish to also hold coaching certification may apply and meet requirements for the Athletic Coaching Endorsement.

  • Applicants for an assistant coaching position who do not hold a valid Florida Educator's Certificate must submit to M-DCPS Instructional Certification an lntent to Hire form signed by the site administrator, an application for a Florida Educator's Certificate (CG-10), and the $75 fee paid by money order payable to the Florida Department of Education.
  • Upon submission of the above, the applicant will be sent to the M-DCPS Fingerprinting Office to be fingerprinted.
  • Once the fingerprints are cleared, the applicant will be issued a letter of eligibility for the principal who signed the Intent to Hire form.
  • The three-year temporary certificate will be issued by Ithe Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Teacher Certification.

NOTE: The temporary certificate for athletic coaching may not be renewed.

Five-year Athletic Coaching Certificate

In order to receive the five-year athletic coaching certificate, the applicant must submit

  • An application for a Florida Educator's Certificate (CG-10), and the $75 fee paid by money order payable to the Florida Department of Education.
  • Proof of completion of Nine (9) semester hours in athletic coaching to include the areas specified below:
    • Three (3) semester hours in care and prevention of athletic injuries.
    • Three (3) semester hours in coaching theory.
    • A course in theory and practice of coaching a specific sport.
