Non-degreed Vocational (Part-Time & Full-Time)

Part-Time Vocational

Eligibility for a vocational certificate is based upon years of verified experience working in the vocational area.

Initial:

Part-time non-degreed vocational certificates are issued by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS).

  • The certification process for part-time non-degreed vocational teachers is initiated by the site administrator at an adult/vocational school.
  • The applicant is referred to M-DCPS Instructional Certification with an "Intent to Hire" letter and a completed Application for an Instructional Position.
  • An analysis of the applicant's credentials is done to establishes eligibility for a certificate.
  • If eligible, the applicant completes the District Vocational Certificate Application (FM-5585) and submits it with the $75 fee for the certificate.
  • The applicant then completes the fingerprint process. Once the fingerprints are cleared, the applicant will be issued a Statement of Eligibility, valid for one calendar year.
  • The part time certificate, valid for five years, is issued when part time vocational employment is verified.

Renewal:

To renew the part-time non-degreed vocational certificate, the applicant

Upon receipt, M-DCPS Instructional Certification will authorize issuance of the part-time non-degreed vocational certificate with a validity period of five years.


Full-Time Vocational

Initial:

 The initial temporary full-time non-degreed vocational certificate shall be valid for three school years and issued upon employment with Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a full-time vocational teacher.

  • Applicants must complete the Application for an Instructional Position as well as the District Vocational Certificate Application (FM-5585) for a teaching certificate.
  • The applicant must be interviewed by Instructional Staffing, at which time the applicant's credentials are verified in order to establish eligibility for a certificate.
  • The applicant completes the fingerprinting process.
  • A Statement of Eligibility is issued to the applicant by the district.
  • A three-year full-time temporary non-degreed vocational certificate, appropriate to the eligibility statement, is issued when the fingerprints have cleared and the applicant is hired.

Requirements for the Professional Certificate:

The Professional Certificate shall be valid for five school years and issued based upon the following requirements:

The courses needed for the professional certificate are:

  1. Three semester hours in principals and philosophy of vocational education.
  2. Three semester hours in general methods of teaching vocational education which includes testing and evaluation.
  3. Three semester hours in methods of teaching agriculture, business, health occupations, home economics, industrial, marketing, or public service education. The methods course shall be specific to the subject area shown on the certificate and include course construction, lesson planning, and management and safety procedures for the vocational classroom and laboratory.
  4. Three semester hours in vocational education designed for the special needs student.

Renewal:*

To renew a full-time non-degreed vocational professional certificate, the applicant

Upon receipt, M-DCPS Instructional Certification will authorize issuance of the full-time non-degreed vocational professional Certificate with a validity period of five years.

NOTE: A full-time non-degreed Vocational Professional Certificate can not be renewed if requirements for renewal were not completed prior to the expiration of the certificate or if the certificate has been expired for more than one fiscal year.

** Professional only. The Full Time Non-degreed Vocational Temporary Certificate is a three-year nonrenewable certificate. Check with M-DCPS Instructional Certification for conditions under which the Full-Time Non-degreed Vocational Temporary Certificate may be extended or reissued.
