Initial:

Adult part-time certificates are issued by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). The certification process for part-time adult/vocational teachers is initiated by the site administrator at an adult/vocational school when the administrator indicates an intent to hire an applicant.

  • The administrator reviews the credentials of the applicant to determine that the person meets the staffing needs.
  • The applicant is then referred to M-DCPS Instructional Certification with a completed application for an instructional position and an official transcript.
  • An analysis of the applicant's credentials by a Certification Officer will establish eligibility for a certificate.
  • If eligible, the applicant completes the District Adult Part-Time Certificate Application (FM5584) and submits it with the $75 fee for the certificate.
  • Upon completion of the above, the applicant will be sent to the M-DCPS fingerprint office. Once the fingerprints have cleared, the applicant will be issued a statement of eligibility, valid for one calendar year.
  • The part-time certificate, valid for five years, is issued when adult part-time employment has been verified.

Requirements:

The applicant must possess a bachelor's or higher degree from a U.S. accredited or approved institution or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution with at least 30 semester hours in a certifiable area.

Renewal:

To renew the Adult Part-Time Certificate, the applicant must:

  • Complete the District Adult Part-Time Certificate Application form (FM-5584)
  • Submit the signed and notarized application with the $75 fee to Instructional Certification.
  • Upon receipt of the application and fee, M-DCPS Instructional Certification authorizes renewal of the certificate with a validity period of five years.

NOTE: Fingerprints are not necessary if the applicant has not had a break in service of more than 90 days.

If the renewal application form is not received by M-DCPS Instructional Certification prior to the expiration of the certificate, a $30 late fee will be assessed in addition to the regular renewal fee.
